I really love the colors on this! Peaceful, pretty, but a little unsettling with the green light in the windows. I love the designs, the details, and the composition. Great depth! Lovely clouds and hint of reflections on the water. Excellent use of the sunset light to add contrast at the focal point.
Only two things bother me:
-The bats/birds are given a direction by their line-like formation, like they are streaming forth from a belfry or are migrating. However, each individual creature looks like it is going in a different direction from the others, like they should be scattering (Which I don't think birds ever do--they always move as a flock. Not sure about bats.).
-The tower/piece with the circular window--at the top it has no depth. It is flat, like a facade. Yet the window implies a grand room beyond, with a tall roof and inner light source. I would consider showing the ridge of a roof running out to the right side of it.
This piece creates a semi-magical setting into which a viewer is transported. The brighter green light in the middle tower helps form a focal point and draw a viewer's attention. The clouds are also drawn beautifully and the river seems to extend past the rock. The fog gives a sort of glow. The way the clouds appear to draw away from the buildings creates a sort of frame. The birds are a nice, realistic touch but they seem to be coming out of nowhere as in the tiny bit of sky visible between towers, there are no birds. Another small problem is that while the circular window seems to lead into a larger room the upper part seems to be a sort of "false front" as it is 2-D and flat. Even so though, this is a very nicely done piece.
Guard1: Did ya see anything? Guard2: What? Guard1: The assassin's guild should be around here... Guard2: Nah, I only see a bunch of tall buildings with eerie green lights coming out of the windows. Guard1: Well then, lets keep looking.
